It brings into consideration the social relations and the groups that help in defining the individual (Hattie, 2014). In fact, I believe that together all these features of identities help in forming the self-concept of the individual (Escalas and Bettman, 2015). We have also learned in the course that when people have a communication with the others based on their self-concept, then the culture, interest and even the thinking pattern of the individual influence the communication. Moreover, during the course of communication, the self-concept of the individual is further developed.
Thus, in this reflective essay, I would discuss about those areas that could be considered as my strengths and those areas that require further improvements. As a result, it can be said that this particular essay is a self-evaluation of my Self. It would help me to become aware of myself and it would guide me towards improvement.
As I have learned in this course assertiveness is a part of the communication system that actually helps the individual to stand up and come up with his/her rights. It is about claiming for one’s right without damaging the interest of the others. The assertive behaviour is always seen as balance behaviour between the passive and the aggressive behaviour. DeVito (2016) believes that by being assertive, the individuals actually ensure that the rights of the other people are maintained at the same time. Hence, in this respect, the comparison between the three types of behaviour would be helpful in this case .
Experts believe that in case of the public speaking, one should first consider certain things and this includes the following:
Considering the audience along with presenting effective content
Highlighting those points that are crucial and at the same time, arranging the ideas in such a sequence that is logical by nature.
Supporting as well as clarifying ideas and making the structure of the content clear to the other people who are there.
Thus, it can be concluded that becoming self-aware is very important for the further growth and the development of the individual. I also feel that the reflective listening and the self-disclosure are some of the most important strengths of mine. On the other hand, I had this feeling that with respect to assertiveness and public speaking, I need improvements.
