The government of Australian along with the Government of Vietnam had launched the ‘Vietnamese Family Migration Program’. This policy further benefitted the relationship between Australia and Vietnam. This was because of the fact that a large number of families had reunited due to this. According to the analysis, by the end of the year 1990, around 190000 Vietnamese families had been established in Australia. The Australia was therefore having a completely new and a reformed image of Asia. Some of these changes were because of the conditions which had been ongoing between these nations. Not only Vietnam, the people from a number of other nations also came and settled in South East Asia. By 1985, a large number of refugees from many of the other nations from South East Asia had settled in Australia. This was as a result of the change in the migration policy which had been implemented by the government of Australia. Because of the change in the migration policy, the relationship further improved. The government of Australia had also made a certain changes in the policies as it observed the improvement in the economic policies of ASEAN nations. In the year 1980, the Australian frontier worked to bring together to think about its relationship with Australia (Vaughn 2004, 94).
This had been done to suggest the further changes which can be made in the policies and can be feasible for the relationship between Australian and Asian nations. The decision was made that the size of the population is in Asia and the total amount of resources which the people in Asia are having can help in the expansion of the economic growth in Australia. It was also identified that the present trends suggests that there is an increase in the political and military strength in Asia. After this, the government further implemented some of the new policies which can supported the trade, investment and tourism between the Asian and the Australian nations to the larger extent. The government of Australia also concentrated on the growth of cultural exchange between these two nations, worked for the acceleration of the teachings related to Asian language in their schools (Downer 2005, 7). Further, the government also focused on the process of development for the skills in Australia so as to serve the South East Asian region in an effective manner. The policies of the government therefore emphasized on the closer involvement of the Australian government in South and East Asian Nation. The majority of the relations which had been established between Asia and Australia had been as a result of the economics or defense.
