Business operations form the core essence of South West Airline. Human resources are deployed in every department of the organization for providing high quality services to the customers. There is human intervention involved in every business activity including procurement of aircrafts on lease from air craft manufacturers, product pricing and business strategy formulation. Thus, there exists possibility that company’s employees or senior managers enter into fraudulent business practices including offering or acceptance of bribes to other players operating in the industry (Merkert and Alexander, 2016). On the contrary, suppliers fail to adapt to technological advancement and deliver sub-optimal supply chain solutions. The airline business is fraught with these risks and none of the players including Southwest Airline are spared from materialization of risk in future. Risk management forms an indispensable part of any organization. Thus, Southwest Airline needs to ensure that corruption risk and supply chain risk are minimized in the organization.
The firm should lay emphasis on monitoring and supervision of employee’s activities and senior management actions. This would help the company to take corrective action in case of any deviation. Timely action would minimize both risk and legal costs for re-gaining compliance (Otusanya, 2011). On the other hand, Southwest Airline should develop cordial and harmonious with its suppliers for ensuring long term uninterrupted supply of both critical and non-critical parts. In this way, Southwest Airline can prevent both corruption and supply chain risks. There exists potential probability of damages to people, asset and environment and regulation because of company’s operation. Such damages would be insignificant and happen once in every financial quarter. On the contrary, events with minor severity are likely to take place once in every six months of business operations. The impact of such event would be limited on company’s resources. A moderate adverse event takes place once in a fiscal year with low probability of 10.00%.
