If one considers the working environment of the companies in the past, the present companies tend to offer lucrative options for the new generation to maintain work-life balance. Maintaining workplace flexibility and work-life balance policies is very important for the employer. It attracts the younger crowd and gives flexibility to the staff which would retire in near future. The employers need to be more responsive towards the diversity of the needs of their employees. The company needs to understand that the concept of “one size fits all” does not exist. The employers need to be open-minded and should understand the need of work flexibility and work-life balance.
In the current scenario, the younger employees are not only confined to asking better salaries but they consider the working environment too. When a company promises a healthy and growing environment which takes care of the work-life balance, the younger employees or the Gen Y employees are ready to accept the offer even at a slightly lower salary as compared to the competitors (Demerouti et al, 2014).
For the retiring employees (as is the case with the company Good energy), it becomes all the easier to manage their work. They have the flexibility of timings and place. Hence it reduces stress in the older employees and also reduces health and safety issues. Having competent work-life balance policies and work flexibility would help the employer to increase, employee commitment, employee satisfaction and employee engagement. Thus it would be a win-win situation for the employee and the employer both.
