According to the summary report from Chinese Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) (2015), about 50% of Chinese student pilots were trained in foreign countries. When Chinese student pilots received their initial training in foreign host countries, the local instructors offered training in which the local national culture traits were embedded, especially regarding cockpit management, communication, etc. When these Chinese pilot trainees completed their training and went back to China, they were likely to discover that the cockpit work was done in a different way. This may include the flow of documents, communication, general relationship between crew members, and so forth. This situation usually is referred to as reverse culture shock(Adler, 1981).For people who have lived in different countries for an extended period of time, they may require some time after moving back to their home countries to adjust their attitudes and values in the working environment in order to accomplish their tasks, and it is impossible to avoid this phenomenon(Adler, 1981; Church, 1982).

People with overseas living experiences were most likely confused about how to behave when the national, organizational, and professional cultures are in conflict (Zapf, 1991). Therefore, when it comes to Chinese student pilots received training from another country, the reverse culture shock may impact their safety performance as well as their cooperation with colleagues. In addition, the training facilities are located across the globe in countries, such as the United States, Australia, Canada, and France. The diverse training background increases the complexity of the cockpit environment. They all appear to be Chinese, but the cockpit management method could be very diverse. This diversity which is created due to the different training background could impact the team work performance, and safety performance.
