The most important cause of land loss is submergence. At many coastal areas, the primary reason for the land loss is submergence. This may even refer to permanent flooding in the coastal areas which may be caused because of the overall rise in the sea level. In the year 2002, the program was combined and revamped with ArcGIS10. The most recent release of the software reflects the revamping of the same and it supports more and more cell level metrics, surface pattern metrics and other things. FRAGSTATS is useful as it provides the open source facility and flexibility, adjusts as per the results to the needs. In addition to this it is also useful that all the calculations are done in one script. Therefore it also saves the time.
