It has been noted that there are various airline companies who have been focusing on developing and implementing similar carbon reduction program done by Virgin Atlantic, with an aim to prevent future environmental degradation. The various competitors of Virgin Atlantic who has come up with their own projects on carbon emission are CarbonChoice carbon offset program by United Airlines, CO2 offsetting program by Brussels Airlines, Offsetting CO2 by JetBlue and Carbon Offsetting project by Emirates Airlines (Jetblue, 2017).
The in-depth analysis of each and every carbon emission program of various airlines mentioned above would be discussed below with an aim to see how these projects provide advantages and problems to their respective companies. CarbonChoice carbon offset program of United Airlines has been an integral part of the Corporate Social Responsibility policy of the company. This environmental policy of the company has been ethically used by the company in order to minimize not only waste but also carbon emission in their airline operations. It has been observed that United Airlines have collaborated with Sustainable Travel International (STI) with an aim to enhance the carbon offset program in the company. The Brussels Airlines have developed their own version of carbon reduction project under the name of CO2 offsetting (United, 2017).
This carbon emission reduction program is one of the few sustainable programs undertaken by the business with an aim to maintain ethical business practices. The Offsetting CO2 project by JetBlue is one of the most important CSR projects which were launched in the year 2008. The management of Jet Blues went into a partnership with Carbonfund with an aim to minimize the generation of excessive carbon during air travels. Finally, the carbon reduction project by Emirates is one of the most popular environmental sustainability projects of the organization where the company in association with the consumers helps in preventing future damage to the environment.
