In analyzing the business environment of Wal-Mart, it is noticed that there is a continuing issue that Wal-Mart has been alleged with both in the United States and in some international countries. This allegation is that Wal-Mart might continue to bring down local traders and businesses. This has resulted in external political/economic and social pressure on Wal-Mart to survive despite these allegations. This could also be a reason why Wal-Mart’s employee policies and internal working is scrutinized more than ever in preset times. How Wal-Mart rises to meet these challenges and how Wal-Mart is justified in providing strategies that would enable it to provide better technology to customers who might prefer it than local businesses are some of the reasoning that will be explored in the next section. Customers want state of the art shopping experience, so in these contexts Wal-Mart strategies are seen to be largely successful.
International Concerns: In this context Wal-Mart expanding into the America’s has been successful despite the challenges. Now based on this same success initiative, they plan to invest more in the international arena. They are now focusing on spreading in the Chinese and Indian markets. This retail chain is a truly global chain with immense potential. More and more investors across the globe prefer this retail chain as they assume they have the success factors in place. However the problems of local traders getting affected because of the launch of Wal-Mart in these countries has led to political, social and policy problems for the company.
Domestic Concerns: There are also some domestic level issues. There is generally a consensus in the US that all the products that are for consumption comes from South Asian countries and particularly China. There was a general complain that Wal-Mart prefers imported good to the locally produced goods. In an effort to combat that viewpoint, Wal-Mart says that it is going to source US production. They are planning to source US products by more than 50 billion in the near future (Wal-Mart, 2014c). They have come up with numerous projects to increase the production in the US. They are also providing a lot of incentives to the domestic partners in an effort to aid the US Economy. They always have a number of plans and incentive programs in order to build brand loyalty and have a larger customer base. They are making initiatives to build a better brand image in the country in spite of being the brand leader. They have also diversified their products even more than their current initiatives.
