In discussing how and why she loved the meth, the meth addict states that she liked using the crystal because of the rush it gave her. It made her feel loved, there was much energy she felt she had when she was using it and she also loved the sex. She calls this the pleasure principle. The meth addict states that using the drug made her feel she should have used it before. The energy that she got when using meth made her realize how her friends had a high amount of energy all day. She states that some forms of meth did make her feel sick the next day, especially because how tired it made her but otherwise the drug made her pleasant and energetic. In addition to these, she also states that it helped her control her appetite. She had a job where she was not able to go to the gym regularly, but when using the meth, she was able to diet better and not eat through long hours to compensate for not going to the gym. In situations where she would not be able to party the night because of a long day at work, there were no problems when she was using the meth.
“Depending on how much I do; I can stay awake as long as I want. Like many people, I thoroughly enjoy going out with friends to clubs and bars, and like most people, if we enjoy something, we don’t want it to stop” (SexVibe Magazine, 1996).Once again the addiction proved to be one of pleasure for the person. The pleasure that the individual got here is what is called as continuous action by Katz (1988). In continuous action, the person seeks to go down to any degree possible for something that they feel is pleasurable for them, even if it feels like a death wish. For instance, men who rob banks might go ahead and do it even if they feel they might get caught or might get injured, just for the thrill of it. A contextual weakness in a day or a system or something might be used to construct the necessary cause for pleasure. Now in people, it is normal for them to want to go out with friends and spend time after a day at work. However, it is not feasible for the person to go out every day with friends.
