Organizations are motivated to do voluntary disclosures because they want to maintain or improve their reputation and credibility. Greene King is one of United Kingdom’s leading pub and Brewer Company and runs more than 3,000 pubs and restaurants in the country. The restaurants and hotels are spread out across villages, towns and the high ends streets of the Unite Kingdom, making Greene King highly influential in the place. Operating with a history of around 200 years or so, the company offers exceptional value for its customer. They believe that ethos is critical for their business and it states on their website that they want to be considered as one of the top most by their customers, their stakeholders and other. This shows that the company is worried about their reputation. Their annual report on 2016 also presents similar information. It shows that they want to focus on different stakeholders and ensure their reputation is always good with their customers. This reputation is one key reason that companies do voluntary disclosure in CSR.

This shows that the company is proud of their CSR activities and wants to voluntarily disclosure them. Are the companies only disclosing because they want to improve their reputation? According to Clarkson et al. (2010), reputation might be one of the motivations. Although nowhere in the annual report, the company indicates reputation as being tied up with their reporting, it is logical to assume that it is also one of the factors.
