The issues of social isolation and loneliness are not uniform. They are found to vary across the older population. Gender research indicates that the women tend to have better networks when compared to the men. The older men in the population have higher risk of being socially isolated. The older men try to continue with their older friendship and generally do not take the effort to forge newer friendship or social networks. These groups of men are at a higher risk. The retired men in the population preferred to not have social time to forger newer networks or friendships. Some of the retired people are from different cultures or nations.
They are found to be culturally and linguistically diverse. In this system, the older people indicate that the migrants who lived in the nations have limited knowledge of the English language. This makes the people to look for forging friendships with the different services. The people in these groups are even more isolated. This is because of their cultural differences and the limited knowledge of the English language (Wilson et al., 2011). The people who have entered the nation as refugees face the brunt of these issues. They are shy and apprehensive in forging newer relationship and these lead to the exacerbation of the loneliness issues that the people encounter.
The sexuality of the older communities also plays an important role in the isolation. The members who have same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria are confused and continue with their struggles. These people do not have the diversity nor do they have a support group like it is in the current times. These people who belong to the LGBTI community are found to be increasingly isolated from the mainstream community.
The members in the residential community have uniform services that are provided. This is a deliberate attempt that the institutions make to ensure that the quality of care is maintained throughout the system. This creates the persona that the people are treated the same. Given the issues that each individual face, there is a need for differentiated services that meet the requirements of the people. These lead to more issues rather than solutions.
