The first problem was associated to the fact that even though the company of Garden Depot knew that there is a demand from customers to establish distinguished business units in the organization, the leaders should have given a thought to the skills required in effective functioning of the businesses (Burke et al 2006). An example here from the case can be of Deerek Sinclair who was made the head of landscaping division but he did not have any landscaping experience leading towards unsatisfactory customers. This problem will be briefed as lack of leadership quality.
The second problem has been the improper way of recruiting which the organization conducted. The organization adopted seasonal hiring instead of permanent employees which led towards unskilled work force in the organization. In addition, importance can be laid on the fact that members from family were recruited in the organization (Burke et al 2006). This proved to be unhelpful in nature for development of business at Garden Depot with respect to existence of complexities for handling operations in the organizations.
The third identified issue was the fact that recruited employees did not have any description of job and the criterion required for recruiting the employees in the organization were also not mentioned.
Analysis of Causes
The cause behind the problem is with respect to inadequate recruitment that had been held by the organization. Therefore, the first cause that has been identified is the inadequate recruitment. This had resulted in causing to mishap within the organization for having some degree of fluctuation amongst the employees of the organization. Recruiting the seasonal employees who are student for certain tasks had resulted in causing a level of inconsistency within the progress of work.
