Authors Judy E. Mill and John K. Anarfi have conducted their research from the Medical and Social Science perspective. According to this topic, Medical studies how and why HIV/Aids comes into being (Wheeler, 2007). Social Science examines how social relationships contribute to the existence of this virus (Wheeler, 2007).
On the other hand, author Caroline Faria presented her study in the field of Social geography and Cultural Geography. In this context, Social geography emphasizes on the social factor that affect HIV/Aids and Cultural geography studies the norms and values that impact HIV/Aids (Wheeler, 2007).
Women
Both the studies focus on women and HIV/Aids. However thee way women are discussed in the studies varies from each other in perception. Authors Judy E. Mill and John K. Anarfi have described women as fragile creatures who are dependent on their surroundings and easily affected.
Though Caroline Faria believes women has been described as responsible for caring, educating and protecting herself and the society from HIV/Aids. Sheila Aikman and Elaine Unterhalter argue that equality is compulsory for ensuring the complete elimination of HIV/Aids(Aikman &Unterhalter, 2007). They say that men are just as much responsible as women in the existence of Aids (Aikman &Unterhalter, 2007).
Methodology
The study ‘HIV risk environment for Ghanaian women: challenges to prevention’ has researched on the topic by interviewing the female gender. These interviewed women have discussed their life stories regarding any factor that they experienced which leads to HIV/Aids.
However, ‘privileging prevention, gendering responsibility: an analysis of the Ghanaian campaign against HIV/AIDS’ studied various social texts regarding HIV/Aids to examine where the women gender stands in the society. Hawkins in his book believes that any valid and appropriate method can be used to examine the factors of HIV/Aids as long as the study is intended to benefit the society (Hawkins, 2011).
