The artificial intelligence algorithm that was used for computing just checked risks versus chances of living. The AI then chose to save that person who had greater chances of living. The ones that had a high risk of death was left to die. AI sealed the fate of the dying person and did not take that chance to rescue the person. Humans would have acted differently in the same situation. When humans go into a rescue operation, the chances are that everybody would be rescued without any prioritization. If a prioritization is applied, the first person to be rescued would be the weakest, the one who needs help because the person who is fighting would at least have a chance at rescuing themselves. The pros and cons and ethical actions of humans are not something that can be coded in AI. If AI can create such ethical breaches in an accident on the road, consider the damage it could cause say in warfare. It could result in many issues. Therefore, in using artificial intelligence, it should not be used as a main power. Consider what David Tuffley, a lecturer in sociotechnical studies at Griffith University believes,
“I think science fiction movies have a lot to answer for. They create a scary future. Our challenge is to figure out how to install societal values into these machines as extensions of ourselves. It’s not only warfare where machines could make life-and-death decisions. In a few years, in an accident scenario, a driverless car might choose whether to hit three people on a pedestrian crossing saving the occupants, or ploughs into a tree killing the occupants and saving the pedestrians” (Griffith 17)
Such forms of AI might aim at say minimizing property damage. In the case of warfare, AI could risk getting people killed over saving some property Human values thus are losing here. Therefore, it is better to make use of weaponry with AI being used as an auxiliary element.
In the context of weaponry and warfare, AI must always remain an auxiliary element. It is better to use it as an auxiliary element because of how there are benefits to using it. However, it should never be used as a main weapon, as it could cause ethical and moral issues.
