Bolen (1989) discussed about the spiral method of inquiry. The symbolic point of view is that the hegemonic masculinity is a notion which is developed to meet the important aspect of masculinity. It also obscures other relevant variables that are involved in the process. Hegemonic character is considered to be the important conceptual and metaphorical symbolist meaning in the society. The pervasiveness of the gender dynamic is exposed by the competitive advantage of the people. The same attitude is reflected in the ideology of entrepreneurship.
In the western nations the creation of the business empire was rooted in the entrepreneurial ability of the men. The traveling was done by the men in the historic times. They were the lone men who had travelled across the nations and after being established in a palace the women served or followed the men to the newer realms or environment. These notions of explorers became synonymous with the exploring innovation of the entrepreneur. The modern entrepreneur is someone who is expected to gain competitive advantage through ambitious activity and innovation. They should be brash and able to handle the stressful nature of the situation. This symbolist meaning of hegemony and the notion of entrepreneur seems to coincide in reality. This leads to the assumption that the entrepreneur is a person who has the ability to foresee and manage people. There is an implicit gender theme that is engraved in the minds of the people.
126 million women across the spectrum have decided to undertake a new business in the current times. This is a positive trend. The women also look for support from their male entrepreneur to make decisions. These are positive facts that showcase the impact of the changing ideologies. However there is a long road to achieve for the women to be more actively involved in the entrepreneur roles. There should be a fundamental shift in the societal paradigm to achieve this result.
In spite of these developments there are hurdles that the women continue to face. In the modern times there is the implicit patriarchy that is found to be interwoven with the notion of entrepreneur. There is two kinds of patriarchy that is observed. It is the private and the public patriarchy. Entrepreneur is still viewed to be a form of male aggressiveness and hegemony. This construction of the entrepreneurship ideology has become synonymous with the male masculinity in the societies. There is an implicit observation in the world that a biological male who is hegemonic, white, heterosexual person with ambitious ideology of expansion is the definition of entrepreneurship. The gendered dynamics have changed in the current times.
However it is still expected that the women in the societies have to take care of their house and their work at home. There is an expectation that the women in the societies cannot offer the same kind of guarantees as that of the women (Bruni, Gherardi & Poggio, 2004).
