The movie The Silence of the Lambs have completed 25 years and still remaining one of the horror movie that has had everlasting effect on the audiences. The movie is centralized on the three main characters. The first is Clarice Sterling, an FBI trainee, second is an imprisoned serial kille Hannibal ‘Cannibal’ and the third is Buffalo Bill, who is also a serial killer.
The plot of the story states that Clarice comes to meet Hannibal to seek his help in locating another killer, as he has been a very good psychiatrist. The terror and thrill in the movie is most likely to be based on the notion that “woman is by her very nature, an invitation to irrational aggression for men” (Kittelson, 53). Cannibalism has been very popular in the pop culture and gains lot of business. The film showing two women killers have been very thrilling for the audiences. Violence has been an integrated part of pop culture. The names of the characters became common in every household o America. According to Clarice in the movie, people should be saved from any kind of harm, while according to Lecter people should be cooked and eaten with Fava beans and Chianti.
Fava beans and Chianti display pop culture even with the depiction of lotion in the basket (Caputi, 103). Thus, the movie had been a great example for the pop culture analysis. This film had left the fingerprints for many following films based on serial killers. The formation of the plot of serial killing and has been an example of having close look at the social order. The phenomenon of serial killing can be found in the history and this has been very popular in pop culture. This has been the first movie to shown a woman hero as investigator. Hannibal Lecter in the movie is not a real serial killer but he has been a popular culture icon.
