Applying the ‘Character-Based Decision-Making Model’ model, it is seen that primarily a person in an ethical dilemma will have to ensure that the decisions being taken should reflect on the well being of the stakeholder such that even when good cannot be done for stakeholders, bad must not be done (Anderson, & Davies, 2000, pp. 711-727.). This primary rule is breached here. At the risk of acquiring good for some, others are seen to be facing negative consequences. The second reasoning states that it is necessary for ethical values to take precedence over non-ethical ones. The CEO, the chief risk officer Sarah and the division head do not consider all the stakeholders and also chose a non-ethical route. On the other hand, Sam Rogers also faces the dilemma but is again forced to take up the same course of action as suggested by his higher ups as he does not have a choice. 711-727.). In the second level are the conventions formed by society, here the social norms of for righteous action are presented. The next level is the post conventional or the social contract level. This is where a person might feel an innate sense of justice to do what is right. In the given movie, Sam Rogers may be said to be at the pre-Conventional level, he might have done what his superiors asked him to do, because of fear of losing his job, retirement benefits or more. However, the movie also implies that it might be social norm to do what they do. Especially the CEO is shown to be saying that this was normal in their line of work.
