UC should join hands with the media to reach out to the general public at large.The university should also make use of the social media and through this medium form a virtual community who is the most encouraged to take part in the initiative and also is willing to gather people for the general cause. After having gathered people for collaborating for an environment friendly culture, UC will then have to possibly educate those people on how to attain energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The community leaders such as business tycoons can also be reached out to so as to form a united culture. Some organizations can cut down on their costs substantially if they take environment friendly measures in their practices. UC can reach out to them with a plan on how to work towards the goal.There is a dire need of awareness programs that will be worked towards achieving the common objective of carbon neutrality. This solution, like all others will cost UC and so they should set aside a budget for this, which should meet their goal in minimization of cost and maximization of benefits. So by having $5 million set aside for this plan, the appropriate allocation of cost needs to be analyzed. University of California has 10 campuses situated at 10 different locations and it also has laborites et cetera.
So the awareness programs will have to be set on a large scale so as to cover the entire community surrounding the various premises of the university. Annual conference schedule can be made with their respective cost requirement; about $1 million can be reserved for the small-scale, open to general public conferences. Major chunk of the investment should go towards high reaching programs that could involve those, which has media’s involvement. To reach out till the media will require a cost as proper planning will have to be derived but their collaboration can also act as sponsorship therefore the $5million investment will not be too dedicated towards it. Collaboration with TV channels and newspapers and barter proposals with them will all require cost; a team will have to be formed for the purpose. So about $2million should be set aside for reaching out to these contributors and arrangement of teams. About another $1million of the investment can be put into research of different organization’s policies and how they can be reached out with a proper plan of using energy efficient resources by saving money. The rest should be dedicated towards holding out programs on short notices or after detailed planning.
