Management of knowledge is a means to promote a disciplined approach which makes the efficient utilization of knowledge in an organization in order to attain organizational goals. The unambiguous and premeditated building of knowledge improves the efficiency of organization’s knowledge.
In contemporary times, knowledge management aids are crucial for sharing of knowledge and diffusion of information. Social multimedia is an inspirational tool that helps in sharing, alliance and interaction and promotes social culture through learning. For instance, commercial social networking site named LinkedIn utilizes “interact intranet” in order to promote a culture that helps in idea sharing and a culture of collaboration which helps its users to update the intranet with user friendly tools. It is regarded as an important concept to be incorporated in the organizations as it aids sharing of information, promoting solidarity through teamwork and acquiring proficiency in the acquisition of knowledge on a social multimedia. However, with the benefits of the social multimedia come the disadvantages as well, which will be discussed later in the paper.
Social Multimedia helps to build social assets/capital
Social assets or capital refer to the individuals in an organization who are considered as intangible assets. It is referred to as the knowledge network within employees, where the accumulation of the implicit knowledge is considered the best to the competitive advantage of the organization. And human capital is the knowledge possessed by the employee in an organization. Hence, social assets/ capital are essential for organizational growth and development, therefore, it is mandatory for an organization to maintain and manage its social assets/ capital.
